Air conditioning systems really need regular servicing due to the natural porosity of the hoses and components of the air conditioning systems in modern vehicles.
The refrigerant gas will leak slowly out of the A/C system at a rate of 15-20% per year, thereby making your system gradually less efficient until it finally stops working altogether.
If you let your A/C system run out of refrigerant and then you dont use the system for several months, the chances are that the internal component seals will dry out and you will have leaks in your system when it is eventually re-gassed. This could be expensive!
Always ensure that your aircon system is in working order by running it on full cold at least once a weeks for a few minutes, even in the winter at the risk of frostbite!
It takes at least one hour to carry out a correct service and re-gas of the car aircon systems. If anyone says they can do it in less time, they must be taking shortcuts and not doing a correct job.
To vacuum the system to remove moisture takes at least 20 minutes and 30 minutes on larger type vehicles like 4x4's.
At JCG, we complete a full and thorough service by one of our qualified engineers so that you can feel confident of a professional job well done!
The amount of gas required varies with make and model. The refrigerant is measurd by weight and a small car may take half a kilo, whereas a larger luxury car with climate control may take one and a half kilos. Prices for regassing or gas top ups therefore will vary, please ask for a quote.
If a major fault is found on your air conditioning system that we cant service then we charge a call out fee of euros 15.00 but this is deducted from your final invoice when we return to regas your system, after the fault has been fixed by your friendly local mechanic ( we can recommend a few).
Bad smells can be produced by the air conditioning system, this is caused over time and due to condensation, bacteria and fungus can form in the evaporator and ducts, creating an unpleasant odour. Micro organisms collect on the evaporator behind the dashboard and the fan blows these nasties into your face, causing allergic reactions, coughs, sneezes and sore throats. For an small additional cost, your air conditioning system can be treated with an anti-bacterial deodoriser and fungicide, which not only kills them off but cleans the system but removes the bad smell too. |
